Pac-Mania is unlocked by scoring 20,000 points (or 15,000 points in the GameCube version) in Ms. The GBA version was released worldwide, while other versions were exclusive to North America, and was a launch title for the system in North America. Both Pac-Mania and Pac-Attack are both initially hidden and unlockable. Namco Museum 64 for Nintendo 64 and Namco Museum for Dreamcast and Game Boy Advance are the first compilations in the series to omit a virtual museum. Pac-Attack is the first non-arcade title featured, with the version chosen for this compilation being the Sega Genesis version. This new compilation also features special remake versions of Pac-Man, Galaga and Dig Dug.

Featured are a total of 12 games: Galaxian, released in 1979, Pac-Man, released in 1980, Galaga and Ms. Because these consoles ran software on DVD-ROM technology, more games were added at once compared to prior compilations. Namco Museum was the first sixth-generation entry in the series, released for the Sony PlayStation 2 on December 4, 2001, the Nintendo GameCube on Octoand finally the Microsoft Xbox, the next day on October 9, 2002.
